Frequently asked questions

Explanation
For:
HostRepute users

This HostRepute FAQ answers the questions people ask most about the trial and plans, credits, scans, alerts, the API, your data and blocklist listings. Prices are on hostrepute.com/pricing.

Only during the trial. A new account gets a 14-day trial with the limits of the Professional plan. The trial belongs to you, not to a team: every team you own shares it, and creating another team doesn’t start a new one. HostRepute emails a reminder 3 days before the trial ends. After that, the team needs the Professional, Business or Enterprise plan; compare them in Plans and limits, and read how the trial works.

What happens when the trial ends or I cancel?

Section titled “What happens when the trial ends or I cancel?”

Settings, then Plans & billing, then Cancel subscription schedules the cancellation: the paid plan stays active until the end of the billing period. When the trial ends without a plan, or a cancellation takes effect, the team has no active plan and the portal shows Choose a plan to start monitoring again:

  • Nothing is checked and no alerts are sent.
  • Domains and IPs, members, alert channels and settings are kept.
  • Detailed uptime checks aren’t kept without a plan; uptime summaries are kept for 90 days.
  • Once a day HostRepute pauses whatever a team has above its plan’s limits, and for a team without a plan that is everything.

Choosing a plan doesn’t turn checks back on. Switch Keep checking it on again for each domain or IP, certificate and uptime monitor you want checked, and turn Check email authentication with every scan back on in your check profiles. Only the team Owner can choose a plan. Teams without a plan has the details.

What counts toward the domain and IP limit?

Section titled “What counts toward the domain and IP limit?”

Each domain name, IPv4 address or IPv6 address you monitor counts once. A paused one doesn’t count, and neither does a temporary entry from a manual scan. When you reach the limit, the portal won’t turn monitoring on for another one until you pause or remove one, or move to a bigger plan. HostRepute never charges for going over a limit. When you move to a plan with a lower limit, you choose which domains and IPs stay monitored, and the others are paused. Add and manage domains and IPs shows how to pause, resume and remove them.

Which alert channels does my plan include?

SlackIncoming webhook URLProfessional, Business, Enterprise
TelegramChat IDProfessional, Business, Enterprise
DiscordWebhook URLBusiness, Enterprise

How many alert channels and delivery hours a team can have also depends on the plan: see Plans and limits. Set up alert channels shows how to add one.

Yes, on every plan and during the trial. A member with the Developer role or higher creates team API tokens in Settings, then API tokens, and each token can do only what its abilities allow. Checks you start through the API use credits, like manual ones. The API allows 120 requests per minute per team.

Yes. In Settings, then Single sign-on, the team Owner connects an identity provider over SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect, verifies the team’s email domains with a DNS TXT record, and chooses whether SSO is optional or required for people whose email is on those domains. The Owner can always still sign in with a password, so a broken identity provider never locks the team out. Read Set up single sign-on.

No. Credits belong to the team and stay until they’re used: the portal says Credits never expire. The team Owner buys them in packages in Settings, then Plans & billing, then Credits. HostRepute never tops up credits by itself; when Email a payment link when credits run low is on, it emails a payment link instead. Read Credits.

No. Scheduled blocklist scans, the first scan of a domain or IP you add, and the email authentication checks that run with every scheduled scan are part of the plan. Credits pay only for work you start yourself:

When a manual scan fails because no blocklist answered, its credit is refunded; refunds lists when other work is refunded.

How quickly will I hear about a new listing?

Section titled “How quickly will I hear about a new listing?”

HostRepute finds a new listing at the next scheduled scan of that domain or IP, so it depends on how often your team is scanned. Your plan sets the default interval and the fastest one, and Settings, then Team settings, then How often we check changes it within those limits. The alert then goes to each alert channel, following its delivery hours. A manual scan never sends an alert. Blocklist monitoring lists each plan’s default and fastest interval, and How HostRepute works explains the schedule.

Blocklists HostRepute checks lists every blocklist, sorted by type, with a removal link where the blocklist has one. A check profile decides which of them apply to each domain or IP.

Scan failed means no blocklist answered during that scan, usually for a moment. It’s a warning, not a listing: it says nothing about your reputation, and HostRepute tries again at the next scheduled scan. Read why a failed scan is not a listing.

These retention periods apply on every plan:

SettingDefaultHow to change
Microsoft SNDS data and resolved SNDS IP statuses90 daysFixed
Gmail Postmaster Tools daily data90 daysFixed
Shared report links and scheduled report links90 days after they are createdFixed
Email submitted to a campaign preflight24 hoursFixed

Also:

  • Blocklist scan history stays as long as the domain or IP is in your team. Deleting a domain or IP deletes its history.
  • Email authentication results are shown for as many days as your plan includes, and uptime history is kept per plan; see Plans and limits.
  • A domain or IP added by a manual scan and never monitored is removed 30 days after it’s added.
  • Without a plan, detailed uptime checks aren’t kept, and uptime summaries are kept for 90 days.

No. Only the blocklist itself can remove a listing, and HostRepute never submits a removal request for you. It guides you instead: on a scan result, Start a request opens a delisting request for one blocklist, with its removal form, email address or instructions and a checklist, and Delisting requests tracks where each request stands. When a later scheduled scan finds the domain or IP clean, channels set to Listed and removed get an alert. For general advice, read the delisting guide on hostrepute.com.
